Gravity eh? What a downer. Wether you are dropping your piece of toast in the morning, or falling down a open manhole on the way to work, sometimes it feels like the only function gravity has is to bring you down to earth with a bump.
But wait!! There are some advantages to gravity too! Firstly it’s an integral part of one of the best scenes from my favourite movie of all time:
And secondly it’s behind much of the enjoyment of one of our households favourite toys – The Marble Run.
Recently Galt toys were kind enough to send us one of their Mega Marble Run sets to review. To be honest when I got their email I just about snapped their hands off in my eagerness to accept.
I love marble runs. There is something about the click clacking of the marbles as they roll down the various chutes and slides that is very hypnotic. Many marble runs get a bit samey after awhile however, but the Galt version is modular and so can be rejigged and rebuilt almost endlessly.
In fact I’d say that the building and rebuilding of the run is about 80% of the fun. the various pieces are very sturdy and click together very well. The actual engineering of it all is well thought out too – reminding me a little of lego in its commitment to ensuring that each bit is exactly long enough for it to fit in with it’s counterparts.

I should mention in the interests of disclosure that the run in the video probably includes a couple of bits from another Galt set we bought. But the Mega set comes with a impressive 100 pieces, and certainly is more than complete in and of itself.
